The present work is undertaken to determine the effect of operational variables, namely: feed rate, centrifugal force and fluidization water flow rate on the efficiency of Knelson concentrator for chromite ore
Special Issue Information. Magmatic chromite deposits (chromitites) are the main source of chromium for industrial use, and, in some cases, they may carry variable amounts of accessory metals (Ni, Cu, Au, and platinumgroup elements) which may have a great economic interest as byproduct of chromium extraction.
A chromite concentrate with 45.29wt% Cr2O3 and a Cr:Fe mass ratio of 1.85 can be produced from these lowgrade chromite ore beneficiation plant rejects. Mineralogical characterization and liberation of valuable minerals are primary concerns in mineral processing industries. The present investigation focuses
Materials. Tata Steel Ltd., has its Chromite Ore Beneficiation (COB) plant at Sukinda zone, Jajpur district of Odisha state, India. It was observed that during beneficiation, substantial quantity of chromite tailings was produced and these tailings were stocked in the dam [2, 3].For research work, tailing sample was collected from different

The chromite fine particles generated from a gravitybased beneficiation plant was reprocessed using gravity (spiral concentrator) and magnetic separation (WHIMS) to enhance the Cr:Fe ratio. Initially, a detailed mineralogical characterization was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the separation process.
Chromite beneficiation plants generate large amount of tailings with significant amounts of ultrafine chromite minerals. In the present investigation, Box−Behnken experimental design was used to model the effects of feed rate, feed pulp density and splitter position on the performance of a spiral concentrator for separating the ultrafine
groups, ~85% of chromite could be obtained prior to the shaking table concentration, and this led to a minimum increase of 20% in the total recovery with less footprint of the plant, reduced water usage, and lower operating costs. Keywords: chromite, beneficiation, spiral concentrator, teetered bed separator 1. Introduction
The chromite sample used in the present study was collected from the tailing fraction of a typical chromite beneficiation plant of Sukinda region, India. As received tailing sample contains 24.26% Cr2O3, 23.51% total iron, 13.61% alumina, 17.58% silica, 5.35% MgO and 7.6% loss of ignition (LOI) having 0.7 Cr/Fe ratio.
Chromite Ore fines extracted from the mine is fed into the Beneficiation Plant where the entrenched waste is separated from the ore. Waste is separated by dense medium separation and concentrate material is separated through a spiral centrifugal water process. Fine waste is separated in a thickener and the sludge is pumped to a tailings dam.
A conventional chromite ore beneficiation process plant (as following Figure) consist of two sections: 1.Communition (for preparing the material for the subsequent unit operations) 2.Concentration (classification and beneficiation). The beneficiation process flow sheet varies from location to location according to the ore
The above concept was adopted in one of the operating chromite beneficiation plant at Sukinda. The approach adopted and practical problems encountered during the study were reported in this paper. The result of trial campaign has shown that, an overall product assaying 30.2% Cr2O3 from the feed (18% Cr2O3 ) can be produced to in single stage.
3. Gravity beneficiation is carried out with spiral chute or shaking table. According to the characteristics of gravity beneficiation, the impurities in chromium ore are filtered out, and then the chromium mineral after beneficiation can be obtained through the operation process of thickener and dryer, so the whole beneficiation miner is over.
